Barnsley has been declared the capital of metal theft in the UK by South Yorkshire's Chief Constable, Meredydd Hughes.
Mr Hughes estimated that two of every five metal thefts take place within a 15 mile radius of Barnsley.
Speaking to the newly formed Yorkshire and Humber Regional Business Crime Forum, Transport Minister Rosie Winterton said:
"Business crime has a detrimental effect on the economic development and growth, resulting in a downward spiral in the quality of life and it is important to get people involved in this Forum."
