Dundee and Warwickshire cabs to get CCTV

Published on 31 Mar 2008

Taxis in Warwickshire and Dundee will be fitted with CCTV cameras as part of a growing trend that has seen similar systems being used in York and Sheffield.

In all the instances the use of CCTV has been prompted by the rise in attacks on cabbies as well as a desire to protect passengers from a minority of dishonest drivers.

Grev Mills, secretary of the Rugby Hackney Carriage Owners and Drivers Association, said:

"We need cameras to protect us from undesirables, and the public from things that shouldn't be said or done in a taxi.

"It's a two-way thing.

"It's not an infringement of people's rights, it's protection."
