Manchester airport to use biometric security

Published on 28 Jan 2008

Manchester Airport is the first in the UK to implement biometric security measures, reports vnunet.com.

Most airports use keycards or number pad combinations to access restricted areas, but these systems have vulnerabilities such as 'piggy-backing' - where two people go through using only one card.

The airport will use iris scanners - scanners that can recognise the unique pattern in an individual's iris - to regulate the passage of it's 25,000 staff between public and private areas.
