Cameras to be used to listen in on troublemakers?

The government is considering employing audio-controlled CCTV cameras to bolster security during the 2012 London Olympics.
Martin Nanninga of VCS Observation, the Dutch company marketing the technology said:

"There was a lot of interest in our system, especially with security concerns about the Olympic Games in 2012. We told them about both our intelligent control room and the aggression detection system."

The cameras, currently in use in the Netherlands, are designed to pick up on aggressive sounds by sensing changes in tone, pace and volume. However some people have raised objections to the cameras, fearing that their use would be serious invasion of civil liberties in a country that is already the most heavily monitored in Europe. Other commentators are more concerned with how effective the systems are and how much they would cost.
