CCTV news roundup: CCTV foils stupid thieves

Published on 16 Nov 2006

An Oxford shopkeeper was able to scare off knife-wielding robbers by brandishing his CCTV camera in their faces, reports the Oxford Mail. The robbers demanded money and cigarettes but fled when the brave store owner grabbed a CCTV camera and pointed it directly at one of the would-be thieves.

Another story of incompetent burglars comes all the way from Boise, Idaho. Our idiotic anti-hero tried to rob a store selling security cameras only to discover that they were all bolted down, reports Metro.co.uk. He tried to disguise himself by putting up his hood but then proceeded to stare directly into a series cameras before taking 250 dollars from the till and hiding in a nearby bush. Of course the U.S does not have the monopoly on stupid thieves, as our next story demonstrates.

A Wrexham man was arrested after video footage of a robbery was posted on video hosting site YouTube, reports 24dash.com. The short film shows a youth approaching a charity worker and grabbing his glasses before running off laughing. The theft of the glasses was reported and the Police were able to make an arrest after they viewed the YouTube video.
