Fire engines to be fitted with CCTV

Fire engines in Greater Manchester are set to be fitted with CCTV after a pilot scheme resulted in a number of convictions, reports the BBC.

Last year there were 260 reports of attacks on firemen while, 134 have been reported so far this year. Tony Hunter, of Fire Services Headquarters, said: "We want to assure firefighters that they can go out and do their job without having their own lives put at risk by members of the public."

The decision to install CCTV on fire engines comes hot on the heals of a similar move to fit the cameras in Sheffield’s Black cabs
