Biometric access control (for example, authentication by fingerprint, signature or retina recognition) is becoming more and more popular and affordable.
Biometric security technology is now an option for a whole range of security applications, including access control, time and attendance monitoring, and PC and data security. To find out how Safe Homes UK can help you with biometric access control, get in touch - call us on 0870 042 0684.
Biometrics is the science of authentication by measuring some biological characteristic of an individual (for example, their fingerprint). A computer will then turn that information into a numerical algorithm, which is stored in a database (rather than storing the fingerprint itself).
When that individual then tries to authenticate, their features should completely match the stored data, whereas another individual would not match. Biometrics therefore allows us to create a unique identifier for each individual user, which we can use to build a totally secure access control system.
Fingerprint locks mean that you never have to worry about losing your keys again.
1. In order to open a lock using your fingerprint, you must first be enrolled onto the system: this is a simple process and is completed in less than one minute.
2. The lock scans your fingerprint (capture time is less than two seconds) and stores your fingerprint data either locally or in a central database. You are now an authorised user.
3. To open the lock, simply place your fingerprint on the scanner. The lock checks the stored data and, if a match is found, opens the door.
Fingerprint data can either be stored centrally or on a smartcard which the individual carries with them, depending on the application.
Safe Homes UK can help you utilise biometric access control technology in your security and management solutions.
Take-up of the technology is rising fast both for mission-critical access control systems and for everyday applications such as PC login authentication and time and attendance monitoring.
Biometric technology increases security, while reducing administration and management time: for example, no more replacement smartcards or passwords.
